A couple of weeks ago, Prairie, Andy & I packed up and went on a weekend trip to the big city- aka San Diego. We actually visit San Diego pretty frequently, it’s where we lived for a few years before Prairie came along, and my sister and her family still live there. But we have always stuck pretty close to the neighborhoods of South Park / North Park / Golden Hill. So when my friend Rachel (aka the super-duper-mega-talented weaver behind Mr Blue Sky) offered to let us crash at her Airbnb, a sunny, art-filled loft in the hip downtown neighborhood of Little Italy. I was like “heck yeah!” And we were off to live my alternate reality dream life of living in a cool loft in a hip neighborhood, chilling with artists, eating at cafes, drinking craft brews, basically living the dream … but with our toddler daughter.
I knew that Little Italy was gonna be a great place to vacation but honestly was a little nervous that it was more of a hip adult spot then a kid friendly destination- but actually was proved delightfully wrong. Read on for more of our mini Little Italy adventure, and tosee more of Rachel’s lovely space.

We arrived pretty late on a Friday night, and happened to run into Rachel walking her dog outside (she lives around the corner). We went up to scope our home away from home, and were delighted to find that Rachel had left us a stash of my two fav beverages- beer and La Croix. She even somehow psychically realized I forgot my bag of food and left yogurt for Prairie’s breakfast the next morning!

Post breakfast we went for a walk along the waterfront and checked out all the cool old wooden ships at the Maritime Museum, then met up with my sis and her kids at the most super duper awesome waterfront playground I have ever seen!
After that we followed Rachel’s advice and stopped by the Little Italy Farmer’s Market (Saturday mornings only) for lunch and Salt & Straw for the yummiest ice cream! I loved how walkable everything is, we truly could have parked the car and not used it agin for days.
Post lunch we headed back to the pad to decompress and I spent some time admiring all the artwork.

We could have kept on tasting Little Italy restaurants forever and ever, but we met my family for dinner. Here’s some of Rachel’s favs that are my list for next time:
Breakfast: Harbor, Herb & Eatery
Beer: Bottlecraft, Ballast Pointt
Lunch/ Dinner: Burger Lounge for veggie burgers, Cafe Gratitude, Haru Mama, Spicy Tsuken Ramen at Raki Raki
