Summer Road-Trip Prep

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that my family recently bought a ’71 VW camper bus which we named Goldie. We have been working hard to get her road trip ready so we can beat the desert heat this August with a trip up to Northern California. I have so many fond memories of driving with my parents from my childhood home of Georgia each summer to visit our relatives in New England- I am excited to create some memories and traditions of our own!

When planning for our trip, first and foremost on our minds is safety. Even though we brought Goldie in to the shop for a tune up right after we bought her, we will bring her in again right before we leave make sure she is running well before we head off on our adventure. If you need to have your car checked or routine maintenance performed before your own summer road trip, check the Firestone Complete Auto Care coupon page for all of their current deals! Firestone Complete Auto Care backs all of their work with a Triple Promise that guarantees your experience will be Fixed Right, Priced Right, and Right on Time.

Driving an almost 50 year old vehicle means that we have to be extra conscientious, to keep break-downs at bay. We bring her into the shop for big stuff, but we like to get under the hood (so to speak, although in the buss the engine is in the trunk!) to familiarize ourselves with our vehicle and make sure things stay running smoothly. We do a series of routine checks each time we drive Goldie. Here is Andy checking her oil and fluid levels, with Prairie observing:

Our Goldie bus maxes out at around 65 mph, and she’s much more comfortable cruising around 45mph. So needless to say, our road-trip will be all about the journey rather then the destination. We plan to take the scenic route up highway 1 to Northern California. Andy has curated the perfect road-trip playlist to conjure up nostalgic vintage California twangy vibes:

Next on my list is planning our camp spots! Hoping for lots of trees, rivers, beaches, and mountains for Prairie to explore! I would love any and all recommendations!
